To that end, the Township of North Kawartha directly runs or facilitates the running of, a variety of programs for all age groups and interests. The Township of North Kawartha supports community efforts to retain cultural heritage and promote pride of place and facilitates the protection and preservation of the history and heritage within the Township. Many families in the area, have been in this area for generations. Many people earned their living or supported their families with the help of logging, trapping, hunting and fishing.

Experience Nature

Burleigh Falls delineates where the Canadian Shield begins, or where the glaciers of the last ice age came to a halt about 20,000 years ago. You'll notice that trees to the south are mainly deciduous and trees to the north are mainly coniferous. To the north is the rock of the Canadian Shield exposed by glaciation. To the south is the debris that was pushed in front of the glaciers, and forms the Oak Ridges Moraine and the area known as the Land Between.
